Appreciation and Respect – Building a Healthy Relationship
ByYou awake in a hurry and as you run out of the door with one shoe on and the second barely on as you grab your car keys, your partner hands you a much needed coffee and a snack for your morning commute. Do you take a second to thank them or just carry on and take if for granted? Most of us would take the time to give respect but often forget to show the same courtesy to their partner a basic key to building a healthy relationship
Your partner may do many things for you and even you may do things for each other, but showing appreciation is a must, taking time to acknowledge each other shows you care and respect your partner, after all you would show that common courtesy to a someone you didn’t know, right. In fact most of us naturally take the time to show respect to other people in the way we act, speak and are far more forgiving to someone we don’t know and yet forget to show this respect in our relationships, whether it is with our spouse, children, even parents!Start taking time to notice the little things your partner does for you daily, you don’t have to have a full blown formal thank you every time he or she makes a move, but do say thank you and tell your partner you appreciate them and that even when you don’t say you notice and make sure you return the favour, show your partner you care by doing things for them. Run a warm bath and have a drink ready after work, put a note in their lunch bag with a ”I love you” note or make a phone call while they are in work and tell them you were thinking of them and wanted them to know.
Appreciation can come in small acts and do not have to cost money, just a little time and thought.
Keep building a healthy relationship, show your love and respect. And while you are at it make sure you take time for yourself too. Simple gestures will help you grow together and stay together as you build self esteem and love.
From the heart,
Andrea
