Write Formal and Casual Wedding Invitations

Wording for casual invitations as well as formal invitations are given in the examples below, of course there are other factors that are important such as the complete details; address, dates, times and R.S.V.P. information. And don’t forget if you want to save money buy a do it yourself wedding invitation kit

Follow how to write a wedding invitation as it can get confusing, decide on what style you want and follow the name instructions for wedding invitations as follows:

Traditionally, a wedding invitation is worded very simply: “Mr. and Mrs. so and so request the honor of your presence of their daughter…” and so on.  But what if the parents are divorced? What if the bride is estranged from a parent? What if that wording is just too stuffy for a casual bride and groom?

Don’t worry, there’s standard wording for a wedding invitation, no matter who’s throwing the wedding. See which situation suits you best, and then apply the appropriate wording.

Situation one: The bride’s (or groom’s!) parents are hosting the reception.

Casual wording: Ryan and Claire James invite you to the wedding of their daughter Kristin Megan to Jason Elliot Roberts.

Formal wording: Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Claire James request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Kristin Megan to Jason Elliot Roberts.

Situation two: The couple is hosting the wedding themselves

Casual wording: Kristin Megan Ryan and Jason Elliot Roberts invite you to celebrate their wedding

Formal wording: The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of Kristin Megan Ryan and Jason Elliot Roberts.

Situation three: One parent is hosting alone (whether through divorce or widowing)

Casual wording: Claire Ryan invites you to the wedding of her daughter Kristin Megan Ryan to Jason Elliot Roberts.

Formal wording: Ms. Claire Ryan requests the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Kristin Megan to Jason Elliot Roberts.

Situation four: Divorced parents are hosting together

Casual wording: Kevin Ryan and Claire Kingston invite you to the wedding of his daughter Kristin Megan Ryan to Jason Elliot Roberts.

Formal wording: Mr. Kevin Ryan and Ms. Claire Kingston request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Kristin Megan to Jason Elliot.

Situation five: Everyone is hosting

Casual wording: Kristin Megan Ryan and Jason Elliot Roberts together with their parents invite you to their wedding

Formal wording: Ms. Kristin Megan Ryan and Mr. Jason Elliot Roberts together with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Roberts request the honor of your presence at their wedding.

Widowed and remarried parent is hosting:

Casual wording: James and Claire Kingston invite you to the wedding of their daughter Kristin Megan Ryan, daughter of the late Mr. Kevin Ryan

Formal wording: Mr. and Mrs. James and Claire Kingston request the pleasure of your company at the wedding of their daughter Kristin Megan Ryan, daughter of the late Mr. Kevin Ryan

A few things to remember:

Casual invitations, there’s no need to spell out dates and times, simply say Just go ahead and say “Saturday, June 1st, 2010 at 6 p.m. However, if you are writing a more formal invitation, spell it out as followed: Saturday, the first of June, two thousand and ten at six o’clock in the evening.

The phrase, “request the honor of your presence,” is traditionally used only if the ceremony is taking place in a religious setting, such as a church or synagogue.

These tips are just standard wordings – feel free to add words and phrases as you please.

Weddings are changing, just are invitation styles, make your invitation creative but easy to read and understand for your guests, always have an R.S.V.P for your headcount and budget.
