What is Love?
“Love” is such a potent word, meaning so many different things—for couples there is often a unique mix of passion, friendship, and “spiritual” love. Another way of saying this is: there is sexual chemistry; there is the ease and camaraderie of friendship, and selfless caring.
The last part—selfless caring— is what I call “spiritual” love. Often we forget that love is not so much about who our partner is, but about our own capacity to love—our desire and ability to promote the happiness of another person. Our willingness to step back and consider our partner’s needs indicates our openness to “spiritual” or “higher” love.
For me, all of these types of love are part of romance. What mix of these kinds of love is important for you in a relationship? What mix works for you?
